Scholarships

The Department of Biological Sciences offers several scholarships to both graduate and undergraduate students. All scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement and/or demonstration of financial need. You must be admitted to Boise State University and have an active myBoiseState account in order to apply.

Darin T. Fralick Biology ScholarshipThe Darin T. Fralick Biology Scholarship is for students who will be a sophomore, junior or senior; who plan to enroll full-time (12 credits UGRD), have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and are a biology major. Students must also demonstrate financial need per the federal financial aid rules. Frank & Angeliki Kepros ScholarshipScholarship is for students who plan to enroll full-time (12 credits UGRD; 9 credits GRD), have a minimum 2.8 GPA, and are a biology major. Students must demonstrate interest in Pre-Forestry, Wildlife Management, Earth Science Education or Horticulture. Students must also demonstrate financial need per the federal financial aid rules. Gem State Fly Fishers Club ScholarshipThe Gem State Fly Fishers Club Scholarship is for Idaho residents who will be juniors or seniors that plan to enroll full-time (12 credits UGRD), have a 3.0 GPA, and are a biology major. Student should be studying water quality or fisheries-related topics.Yes

Keppler Birds of Prey ScholarshipScholarship is for students who plan to enroll full-time (12 credits UGRD; 9 credits GRD), have a 3.0 GPA, are a Biology major and demonstrate an interest in raptor or vertebrate biology. Students must also demonstrate financial need per the federal financial aid rules. Morely Nelson Biology ScholarshipScholarship is for students who plan to enroll at least part time (6 credits UGRD; 5 credits GRD), have a 3.0 GPA, and are a biology major. This scholarship is for students that can demonstrate work to increase public knowledge and/or appreciation of conservation of species and wildlife habitat with particular involvement in raptor research or ecosystems in the west. Students must also demonstrate financial need per the federal financial aid rules.Yes - Awarded based on FAFSA
NSF Gateway Scholarship in BiologyGateway Scholars is a cohort-based scholarship program for biology students funded by the National Science Foundation. Gateway Scholars receive professional development, financial support, cohort experiences, academic advising, and support from a faculty mentor. Students will enroll in Biology 198 during the fall of their Freshman year. This course is designed to give new biology majors an introduction to the careers of biology, the concepts of biological research, the research of faculty, and tools to help them achieve success as a biology student.Yes
Richard McCloskey Biology ScholarshipScholarship is for undergraduate and graduate students that plan to enroll in at least 8 credits or more, have a 3.00 GPA, are a Biology, Secondary Education, or an Environmental Studies major. Richard Olendorff/Idaho Chapter of Wildlife Society ScholarshipThe Richard Olendorff/Idaho Chapter of the Wildlife Society Scholarship is for graduate students that plan to enroll full-time ( 9 credits GRD), have a 2.7 GPA, are a biology major and are affiliated with the Raptor Research Center.Yes
Robert A. Buchwitz Memorial ScholarshipThe Robert A. Buchwitz Memorial Scholarship in Arts and Sciences is for graduate students who have an interest in Biology and have a record of academic excellence with a minimum 3.5 GPA, and plan to enroll full-time, and demonstrate financial need. We can determine your financial need by the results of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Preference may be given to students conducting biomolecular research.Yes - Awarded based on FAFSA
Russell J. Centanni Biology ScholarshipThe Russell J. Centanni Biology Scholarship is for students that will be juniors or seniors, that plan to enroll full-time (12 credits UGRD), have a 3.25 GPA and are a Microbiology major. Student must complete one microbiology course prior to receiving scholarship.Yes
Sarah Minckler Biology Scholarship The Sarah Minckler Biology Scholarship was established in 1998 in memory of the late Sarah Minckler. Sarah was a senior at Boise State majoring in biology when she passed. During her time at Boise state she spent three weeks in the Owyhee desert doing biology research work and spent two weeks in Rome, Italy, and Istanbul, Turkey with a Boise State Tour. She had a love for the outdoors including fishing and camping. The Scholarship is for female students that will be juniors or seniors, that plan to enroll full-time (12 credits UGRD), have a 3.0 GPA and are a biology major. Student must be Involved in field work and interested in being a field biologist. Apply for this scholarship through the Boise State Foundation Scholarships application.Yes
Western Studies-Elmer Keith ScholarshipThe Western Studies-Elmer Keith Scholarship is for students who plan to enroll full time (12 credits UGRD; 9 credits GRD), who have a minimum 3.25 GPA, and demonstrate financial need. We can determine your financial need by the results of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Student must be involved in marksmanship and/or horsemanship and have a declared major in arts and sciences; history, English, biology, nature writing, or related fields.Yes - Awarded based on FAFSA
