Preforestry / Prewildlife
In co-operation with the College of Forestry, Wildlife, and Range Sciences at the University of Idaho, the BSU’s Department of Biological Sciences has developed a program of study that allows the completion of two to three years coursework of a preforestry/prewildlife program while at BSU, then transfer to the University of Idaho to complete the junior and senior years in the professional program in which the student is specifically interested.
Completing three years of coursework at Boise State (instead of two) would allow the student to complete all core requirements at Boise State and concentrate on scheduling the needed professional courses at the University of Idaho. Listed below is possible program of study at Boise State for the first two years. If the student is certain of the degree option they plan to pursue at the University of Idaho, then he/she should carefully study the degree requirements to optimize the time they spend at Boise State University.
Another option for students interested in pursuing a career in wildlife or field botany is to complete a B.S. in Biology at Boise State University. For students who will be pursuing a Master’s Degree, a B.S. in Biology is as good as (or even better) preparation than narrower profession-oriented degrees. For students who wish to stop with a bachelor’s degree, it should be noted that a number of BSU Biology students have been successful at obtaining employment with government agencies; however, substantial experience should be secured (e.g. via internships) before graduation.
