Flow Cytometry Core Facility

About the Facility

The Flow Cytometry Core Facility (FCCF) was created for the primary purpose of providing services to users principally within the Boise State University and Treasure Valley community. The goal of the facility is to aid researchers and graduate students in implementing flow cytometry into their experimentation. The facility is equipped with a state of the art four-laser BD INFLUX cell sorter. This instrument supports four-way sorting, plate sorting for single cell isolation and can operate up to 200,000 events per second. The BD INFLUX at BSU is also equipped with a small particle detector allowing particle detection near 200 nm.

Faculty and Staff

  • Dr. Denise Wingett, Director
  • Dr. John Rasmussen, Senior Scientist/Laboratory Manager

Location

The Flow Cytometry Core Facility (FCCF) is located in Science building room 218 at Boise State University’s main campus.

Instrumentation

  • BD INFLUX Cell Sorter – Up to 9 color analysis, equipped with 488 nm (200 mW), 405 nm (50 mW), 355 nm (100 mW), and 640 nm (50 mW) lasers
Detector Laser (nm) Emission (nm) Typical Fluorochromes

Cell Sorting Rates

Internal BSU user rates
Rate 1 Rate 2 Rate 3
BD Influx Supplies – flat fee $30.93 $30.93 $30.93
BD Influx Cell Sorter – per hour $17.17 $22.12 $26.39
External non-BSU federally funded user rates
Rate 1 Rate 2 Rate 3
BD Influx Supplies – flat fee $43.61 $43.61 $43.61
BD Influx Cell Sorter – per hour $24.21 $31.19 $37.21

  • Rate 1 based upon usage of 488 laser alone or 640 laser alone or both 488 + 640 lasers together
  • Rate 2 based upon usage of 488, 640 and 405 lasers
  • Rate 3 based upon usage of 488, 640, 405 and 355 lasers
  • Users will be charged a flat fee for supplies per experiment and charged in ¼ hour increments according to the rates as listed above
  • Users will be charged time necessary for setup at the appropriate rate (typically ~1 hour dependent on number of lasers, number of markers using, sterility requirements, etc.)
  • Prior to beginning any cell sorting, investigators must sign ‘FCCF Registration and Authorization Form
